Who should control the rules for a rider?

This subject can be huge. From helmets to windshields to fenders to handlebar heights.

The government feels it has the need to protect riders from themselves. An over abundance of vague laws, created as a bandaid to fix a problem that was "hot at the time" doesn't save one life.

It should not be the Governments responsibility to protect riders from themselves.

The insurance companies should be the ones held responsible for setting the rules that protect their customers.

Woah... settle down now... I know what you're thinking... If a rider gets injured because of their own stupidity, and is not insured, we all are responsible for them. Well, each year, we're responsible for the thousands of people left invalid because they fell down the stairs, and didn't have health insurance. Do we outlaw steps or require everyone to wear a helmet when navigating a set of stairs? No, we do not.

Because the individuals who create the laws, don't understand the situation, the create a "Feel Good" band-aid for a problem, and then go on to the next issue. I'm almost certain that some legislator at one time, tried to outlaw stairs when one of their contributors suggested it, but it failed. Because it effects "the Biker Industry", no one really cares.

Require education over legislation. Make people responsible for their own actions, and stop protecting people from themselves! Bottom line, leave it up to the insurance companies to set the rules regarding their customers.
