I highly recommend that all motorcyclist have at least 500k of UM/BI coverage. I am a California Biker and it is estimated that 25-35% of the population rides without insurance. Furthermore UM/BI will cover you if you are the victim of a hit and run.

This type of coverage is many times the only thing that will cover you if you get hit by an uninsured cager. It may cost a bit more, but in the long run it is worth it. Get as much as possible if you are a biker!

Also, check with your insurance company about uninsured motorist property damage coverage. I don't carry collision on my motorcycles, so UM/PD--which costs about $10/yr IIRC--will cover my bike and gear if they are damaged in a crash caused by an uninsured driver.

I agree. Some policies cover UM/PD if you buy comprehensive and collision, some don't! You have to check. There are too many uninsured motorist on the road to take chances.

I think the 500k is a little accessive, but you can never have to much coverage. Plus I do agree you should have Unisured motorist coverage
